We met Asger Wissing, bassist in The Minds of 99, to talk about the moments that stay with you. Not the sold-out arenas or the albums. But the feelings that made music impossible to live without in the first place.
The soundtrack to what we already feel
Asger Wissing has spent most of his life surrounded by music. Writing it. Recording it. Performing it. Listening to it. Yet when he talks about why music matters, he almost never starts with the music itself. He talks about people. About heartbreak. About joy. About the moments that change us.
Because to him, music has never been something that tells us what to feel. It simply gives shape to emotions that are already there, helping us understand them, embrace them, or simply sit with them for a little while longer.
Whether he’s standing in the studio chasing an unexpected moment of magic or on stage with thousands of people sharing the same song, Asger keeps coming back to one belief: Music doesn’t create emotion. It amplifies what’s already there.
For someone who has become known as the bassist of one of Denmark’s biggest bands, Asger speaks surprisingly little about the instrument itself. He actually began on piano.
When The Minds of 99 started taking shape, the band simply needed someone to play bass. His older brother had one. So he picked it up.
That perspective has stayed with him ever since. He has never been interested in making the bass the centre of attention. Its role is to support the song, adding another layer to something bigger than any one musician. As he puts it, the bass is simply another ingredient in the dish that is music.

On paper, speakers have nothing to do with music. The songs remain the same. The performance doesn’t change.
But Asger sees them differently. Good speakers aren’t there to impress you with detail or precision. Their job is much simpler than that. To translate the music honestly.
